Fear psychology: The root causes of men's fear and how to overcome it

A man's main fear is that when faced with numerous obstacles in life and layers of pressure, he cannot find a way out.

In fact, with the development of the times, men's inherent advantages over women are being lost at an alarming rate. In today's world, many men harbor a persistent sense of fear, such as fear of the dark, fear of heights, fear of snakes, fear of thieves, fear of unemployment, fear of being looked down upon, and fear of insufficient masculine ability.

No one is completely free from fear and timidity; even the bravest sometimes experience moments of weakness, cowardice, and hesitation. However, if fear becomes a habit, it transforms into an emotional disorder, making one overly cautious, timid, anxious, and indecisive. Fear permeates one's mind even before a clear goal is set, causing one to retreat at the slightest setback. It easily breeds pessimism and despair, leading to a decline in self-esteem and confidence, thus hindering the achievement of self-designed goals.

A person trapped in a state of fear is unable to make decisions and loses the will to act proactively. Passive resistance stemming from fear of being overwhelmed, or excessive defensiveness caused by terror, prevents a person from ever fully utilizing their intelligence.

If a person is overwhelmed by mental burdens, he will never be able to change his situation. Only a change in mindset can bring about a change in action.

The root of men's fears

According to experts, men's fears and worries can be summarized in the following aspects:

1. They have extreme fears regarding their career, livelihood, and money.

They experience profound fears regarding their careers, livelihoods, and finances, stemming from the dread of rejection and failure. Because men contribute a larger share of family income, coupled with the traditional concept of "earning money to support the family," their greatest fears lie in their careers and finances. If a man cannot earn money, the pressures of unemployment, job loss, migrant work, healthcare, insurance, housing, loans, mortgages, raising children, and school fees can cause him immense distress and a loss of security. This constant, relentless struggle for survival relentlessly tugs at the heartstrings of his fears, almost driving him to hysteria.

2. Fear of losing physical health

Another thing men fear most is losing their independence and becoming dependent on others for care. This usually happens when they are ill.

3. Many men often worry about being abandoned.

Men often become particularly afraid of being looked down upon or abandoned by their wives or children after middle age. Therefore, they become very sensitive when family members treat them disrespectfully.

4. Worrying about their children's lack of success.

Men often have a stronger desire for their children to succeed than women. Middle-aged men often feel a deep fear that their children will not meet their expectations, which creates a constant mental burden.

5. Men also have a strange fear of intelligent and talented women.

Men harbor a deep-seated fear and aversion towards shrewd and assertive women. They often label such women with derogatory or vulgar terms, such as "tomboy" or "career woman." Some men explain, "Those intelligent women constantly display their superiority, making them seem strong and assertive. As a man, I simply cannot imagine what it would feel like to be with a woman who mentally overwhelms me."

6. Fear of having their sexual abilities questioned.

Men fear impotence, worrying that they cannot satisfy women. This intense sexual insecurity often leads many men to mask their unease with boasting, temporarily alleviating their fear.

How to get rid of fear

1. As a man, you need to have a correct understanding of yourself.

No matter how intelligent a man is, he will have strengths in some areas and weaknesses in others, and will inevitably experience setbacks or receive negative feedback from the external environment. In short, no one can be better than another in everything. Fear is the freezing point in our hearts. Many times, what defeats us is not external difficulties, but the fear within ourselves.

2. Successful people see risk as opportunity.

They analyzed the risks and the potential benefits of success. Although they understood the consequences of failure, they were mentally prepared and therefore not afraid.

3. Not afraid of getting hurt

Living in modern society, we must abandon the fear of getting hurt and the dread of setbacks, adjust our mindset, and try life with a healthy and strong heart so that tomorrow can have a better start.
