Initially, internet addiction patients develop a psychological dependence on the internet, which can easily progress to physical dependence syndrome, manifesting as memory loss, fatigue, loss of appetite, vision problems, sleep disturbances, and anxiety. Furthermore, prolonged internet use can induce cardiovascular disease and weaken the immune system.

Symptoms of Internet Addiction

Internet Addiction Disorder (IAD) is characterized by uncontrolled internet use, an inability to stop, and a dependence on the internet that precludes eating or sleeping. Even when aware of the severity of the problem, sufferers often experience symptoms such as depression, dizziness, trembling hands, fatigue, and loss of appetite.

In recent years, with the increasing internet penetration rate, more and more people are accessing the internet and spending more and more time online. At the same time, various psychological problems arising from the internet have also increased, with internet addiction, as exemplified by the above examples, being particularly prominent. A survey of university students shows that nearly 80% of internet users report having a tendency towards internet addiction.

Internet addiction is a type of internet-related psychological disorder, characterized primarily by:

1. They spend a lot of time online, and the internet has become almost their entire life, causing them to neglect the existence of real life.

2. Spending long periods of time in the virtual world can easily lead to emotional apathy, causing people to become indifferent to others, have weak interpersonal relationships, and live a withdrawn life.

3. Feeling anxious and restless, becoming irritable, having difficulty concentrating on anything, and experiencing extreme excitement when online.

4. Symptoms include sleep disturbances, loss of appetite, slow thinking, low self-esteem, easy depression, feelings of loneliness and sadness, and in severe cases, self-harm, self-mutilation, or even suicidal behavior.

Causes of Internet Addiction

The causes of internet addiction are complex, but one factor cannot be ignored: the ever-increasing pressure of modern life, the growing complexity of interpersonal relationships, and the accelerating pace of life all contribute to the increasing psychological stress people experience. The internet, a virtual space, allows people to roam without a real identity, responsibility, obligation, or vigilance. For modern people who suffer from prolonged psychological repression and work under constant pressure, this offers a welcome escape. Therefore, many people, after experiencing setbacks and frustrations in real life, easily find a sense of release and fulfillment in the online world. In their quest to escape reality and seek relief, they easily become addicted to the internet, unable to extricate themselves, and thus develop internet addiction.

Prevention of Internet Addiction

1. Understand what constitutes internet addiction.

Perhaps you are an internet addict. Think about whether you often can't resist going online, and once you're online, you don't want to log off? Do you feel restless and unmotivated when you're not online? Do you spend long hours online without feeling tired, and your monthly internet bill keeps increasing? Do you rarely sit down to chat or socialize with family and friends, but instead spend a lot of time online? If you have any of these symptoms, then internet addiction is lurking around you, so please be vigilant!

2. Have a correct and comprehensive understanding of the internet.

The internet, with its vast amount of information and fast transmission speed, provides comprehensive services to our lives, and is by no means limited to chatting, gaming, or sending emails. When using the internet, we must be operators of the computer and users of the network, not controlled by it, "trapped" by it, or become its loyal "servant."

3. No matter how much of your life the internet occupies, always remember that you cannot completely isolate yourself from real life; you are always a real person who experiences the realities of life.

You should manage your online time reasonably, remind yourself to interact more with the people around you, participate in various activities in real life, spend more time with your family to communicate your feelings, and experience the joy and happiness that real emotions bring you.

4. Establish an alliance and agreement with your family.

If you spend too much time online and show signs of internet addiction, allow your family to take strong measures to limit your online time.
